You’ve heard it said, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”  Do you eat breakfast? Do you encourage your children to eat breakfast?  How do you instill in them this important meal?  If you have kids that play sports you might use this tactic.  Have you seen that famous Wheaties commercial?  “Eat your Wheaties”  Many times kids will emulate their favorite sports figures.  This commercial is an example of sports figures making a positive impact on kids by encouraging something such as eating breakfast daily, which can be great for kids.

There are many benefits to your kids eating breakfast.  Some of these benefits include:  Being able to think more clearly.  being better focused,  having better behavior, and taking in nutritious vitamins that are found in many breakfast cereals and other foods.

If you have trouble getting your child to eat breakfast why not make it a game.  Kids enjoy competition and sports so why not make breakfast a game too.  Whoever can eat all their cereal first gets to take a day off from chores, or gets 30 extra minutes of television or maybe even an extra treat in the afternoon during snack time.  Whatever it takes you want your child to have the breakfast of champions.

We are getting ready to celebrate a milestone in my family. My middle child will officially become a teenager. I have heard it said, raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree. How true that is! As parents we have been quizzing him for gift ideas. Besides the I want a laptop and iPhone list he has asked for a sleepover with some of his friends. The sleep over we can do; the other two will have to wait until his is a lot older.

My soon to be teenager plays a lot of sports. He currently is on a football team; he also plays basketball and soccer. Ball season is drawing to a close around here and if your boys are like the ones in my neighborhood many of them are raving about who made All Stars this year or how many outs they got during the season.  Whether your little sport was an All Star or rode the bench far more often than he would have liked to why not reward him and say “congrats” on his season with a great gift?

Helping our children to feel that they did a good job, even if they don’t feel that they did is important. I’m sure that if anything your son or daughter learned something from their season of baseball, softball or tee ball even.  Good sportsmanship and discipline can be learned from a season of playing ball and that is important enough to reward.
