Music Helps Develop Cognitive Abilities

The exposure to music has many benefits to your child’s development. Studies have shown that music help kids develop logic abilities. Learning to read is a form of rhythm for example Dr. Seuss. When kids can pick our words in a song they have gained a very important skill. Personalized music is beneficial for babies and toddlers because one of the first things they learn is their name. When they hear their name through the rhythm of music it develops the cognitive ability they will need when learning how to read.

Music also allows them to explore sounds with their voices and to use instruments in their play. This develops their tempo and rhythmic patterns. Music also allows babies and toddlers to express their inner perceptions and thoughts, even before they can articulate how they are feeling. The most important thing of all is that music is fun! There are many games you can play with your child while incorporating music and developing their cognitive ability.

Music Improves Mood

Berthold Auerbach has said, “Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Music may effect your mood more than you think. People who are dealing with depression find that music lessen symptoms of low mood, fatigue, and lack of focus, according to a review of live studies recently published in “The Cochrane Library.” Teachers have found that playing soothing music in the background helps with the mood of students.

Personally I know when I have a bad day music can help me release some of the tension. Since it effects us this much as adults, don’t you think it would have the same benefit for kids? I believe this is why lullabies for bedtime and rhythm music for play time is so important for kids. It has the effect of calming them down or teaching them through music. Personalized music takes it one step further by giving the kids a sense of identity and plus they love to hear their own name. Next time you are in a bad mood turn on some music.

5 Ways to Boost Your Child’s Creativity

Some kids are creative by nature and there are others that need help in developing their creativity. Encouraging a child’s creativity facilitates their personal development and self growth. Here are some ways you can help as a parent.

1.Get the proper nutrition. This will enhance their energy and give them the ability to think and do more.
2.Try new things. Break out of your daily normal routine, try going a different way when taking them to school, or doing homework in a different place at home. Mix things up.
3.Encourage them to be curious about the world around them. Take time to point out little things.
4.Read them a different type of book. Maybe of poems or silly sayings.
5.Listen to different types of music.

Music can spur on a child’s creativity with the words, beat and rhythm. A personalized CD would be a nice surprise also, they could be listening to the music and suddenly hear their name. It will capture their attention and spur on creativity.

Listening to Music In the Car

tpa_children_playing_100116Play dates are an important part to a child’s development. While my kids were toddlers we set aside three days a week to meet other toddlers for a play date. Sometimes that meant driving to parks, or meeting in a large air conditioned room at the church where they could run around, or even swimming in a blow up pool during hot summer days. These times were as beneficial to Moms as it was to the kids.

Whatever we had planned it usually meant driving in the car. While we were in the car the kid would always want to listen to “their” music. This was a lifesaver as a Mom because the kids were so engrossed in singing the songs, laughing and playing while we were driving; this made driving more enjoyable. What the kids did not know was through music they were also learning. As the play date came to an end and we were returning home, the music helped keep them awake so they would all take good naps at home. Music was such a lifesaver in the car.

Music Helps Creative Play in Kids

D_Fireman_WebCreative play is beneficial to a child’s development. Creativity allows them to dream and allows them the ability to see things from a different point of view. One of the best way for children to express themselves is by way of dramatic play. It helps kids understand the world around them by developing and expressing their feelings and personality.

As a parent or teacher providing props stimulate this kind of drama. Not only can props help, but music can help them imagine themselves as train engineer, teacher, or airplane pilot, etc.. There are also personalized music CD’s where they hear their name while stimulating their imagination. If your child is pretending to be a teacher having the personalized CD along with props will help them see things from a teacher’s perspective. This facilitates problem solving and understanding how the world around them works.

Music Benefits Kids With Learning Disabilities

wedding ceremony music sheetStudies have shown that combining music with learning can help to increase language skills in kids with learning disabilities. In formal education the main requirement is reading and writing, but a kid with a learning disability needs input for their other sensory channels. Songs, chants, poems and raps help a kid’s memory of facts and details. Depending on the child’s age having them write their own song or poem is also a great benefit.

Starting music appreciation early helps kids mentally, physically, and emotionally. Teachers have noticed that soothing music playing in the background has helped calm kids and increased test scores. Starting kids off at an early age is the best way to incorporate music into learning and to capture their interest. The best way to do this is with a personalized CD with their name incorporated in the songs. This will build their imagination while keeping their attention. Increased self confidence is one of the many benefits of combining learning and music.

Making Music a Part of Life

My 4 year old son loves music. He often sings while playing, at bedtime or even in the car. Of course he wants me to sing along. Music can be an important part of a child’s life. It is proven to help with learning and development. So, making sure that music is a daily part of your child’s life can be a positive choice for any parent to make in their household.

Music can be valuable in the life of a child at almost any age. It can soothe a baby to sleep, light up a smile on the face of a toddler, and help a preschooler to learn his ABC’s. You can incorporate it into your baby, toddler or preschooler’s life through lullabies, singing catchy learning tunes or even through creating your own music. What child wouldn’t love beating a drum, clanging some cymbals or tapping out a tune on a toy piano or keyboard?drum

You can even teach your child to use their own hands and feet clapping or stomping out a beat. Learning rhythms can be an important part of a child’s development. Children are never too young to begin experiencing or enjoying music. They can begin to benefit from it even before they are born, so mommies bring out that CD player and listen to those lullabies, let your toddler bang the drums, and sing learning songs with your preschooler, it will only help them as the grow and learn while enjoying the joy of music all the while.

Music In School

Not to long ago when children were in school they were constantly hearing, “stay in your seat,” “quite wiggling,” or the famous “sit down.” Music in school has changed that. Now many teachers incorporate music while teaching. It channels the energy into something fun while each child becomes actively involved in learning.
Music and Dancing
Kids have a natural desire to learn, but if teachers fail to make it enjoyable, the kids will tune out. Music has also shown to help kids who struggle with emotional, social, or language problems. It helps draw them out of their shell and feel more comfortable in their surroundings and in return they are learning. Personalized musical CD’s help develop a child’s self-image and imagination. Dreaming of becoming a fireman, or an airplane pilot, or a farmer through music builds the imagination while teaching the kids about the different jobs. In the process they are moving around to the music and releasing all that energy while learning. Incorporating music in the classroom is win-win situation for teachers and students alike.
