Music Benefits Kids With Learning Disabilities

wedding ceremony music sheetStudies have shown that combining music with learning can help to increase language skills in kids with learning disabilities. In formal education the main requirement is reading and writing, but a kid with a learning disability needs input for their other sensory channels. Songs, chants, poems and raps help a kid’s memory of facts and details. Depending on the child’s age having them write their own song or poem is also a great benefit.

Starting music appreciation early helps kids mentally, physically, and emotionally. Teachers have noticed that soothing music playing in the background has helped calm kids and increased test scores. Starting kids off at an early age is the best way to incorporate music into learning and to capture their interest. The best way to do this is with a personalized CD with their name incorporated in the songs. This will build their imagination while keeping their attention. Increased self confidence is one of the many benefits of combining learning and music.

A Singing Stuffed Animal

My kids have a ton of stuffed animals. I am not talking 10 or 12, I’m talking dozens of stuffed animals.  While I’m sure they are cute, cuddly and the people who gifted them with them meant well, sometimes I wonder “don’t we have enough?”  Then there is this one animal, that they seem to love more than the rest, it gets more of their attention, gets played with and loved more often.  Why you ask?  Well it sings, yes, the stuffed animals sings to them, precious little lullabies and songs.

stuffed animalThis stuffed animal is special to them because it incorporates one of their other favorite things, music.  What a concept!  This is such an important part of any child’s life.  Music is important to children and so now not only does the stuffed animal soothe and comfort my child, but the music it plays helps it to go the extra mile.

So, the next time you’re buying a child a stuffed animal, consider one that does a little something extra, it plays music and bring a little extra joy into the life of a child.

Rocking To Lullabies

rockingWhen I brought home my first newborn baby, I was not sure what I was doing. Being a mother has many challenges. Why are they crying? If I only knew what they wanted I would help them.

Even if the whole day was chaotic, the best time both baby and I had was in the rocking chair singing lullabies. While I sang lullabies I would add their name while singing; now there are personalized lullaby CD’s you can sing along with that adds your baby’s name to the lullaby. Want to know a secret, I did not even mind rocking in the middle of the night. This special bonding with my baby, made all the hard times worth it.

Through lullabies the baby learns the mother’s voice, and in return relaxes them so they can fall asleep. Also during this special time you are gaining confidence in yourself as a parent. Even though you go through the day sleep deprived, cherish these moments of rocking and singing lullabies to your baby. Before you know it they won’t need these moments anymore.

My Song

When I was little I remember singing those old favorite Christian children’s songs, Jesus Loves Me, This Little Light of Mine, The Lord’s Army, The B-I-B-L-E, and others I’m sure.  They were short, catchy, but impacted my life in a very real way.  They were important to the foundations of my learning about the Bible and Jesus.

Now, I have a son of my own, and his favorite “song” is a Southern Gospel song sung by a local gospel quartet.  In the car he always asks for “my song” and I turn it to the one he is referring to.  It speaks of Christ’s death on the cross and his love for us.

musicThough, I’m glad he loves this song and I know that the words and message are teaching him much, I wonder if other children today or even hearing the basic tunes, such as Jesus Loves Me, or if their little ears never hear those words through song.

It is so important to teach our children such precious tunes.  I love to sing them to my children and often replace the word “you” with their names.  Jesus Loves “Lily” yes I know for the Bible tells me so.  Won’t you share those words with your child today?

Preschool Birthday Parties

enews_Party_HatBirthday parties are a yearly event preschoolers look forward to, it is a memorable time that makes them feel special. For preschoolers the key is keeping things simple, but enjoyable. When hosting a preschool birthday party, games and entertainment becomes a must. Planning the birthday cake and goodies bags can wear you out, but you also need to find ways to keep them moving. Brainstorming ideas of possible birthday games can be challenging. Let me recommend several games that all preschoolers enjoy.

  1. Hokey Pokey

  2. Simon Says

  3. This Old Man

The above games are only a few of the multitudes of possible games. Another way to make the birthday memorable is a personalized CD of the birthday kid’s name incorporated with the games. The kid will hear their name on the CD, and all the kids will enjoy dancing to the music. Adding music and games to a preschool birthday party is something everyone will enjoy.

Music and Sports

footballWe are in football mania. Daily practices out in the hot heat, stinky uniforms cluttering the house and games every Saturday until October. So what does this have to do with music? All my boys love to “turn up their music” before a big game to fire themselves up. Most every sport incorporates music to pump up the fans and athletes alike. Music is something that affects all of us.

Having a personalized sport’s CD takes it to the next level. Your child will be able to imagine himself playing on his favorite NFL team while listening to the Monday Night Football theme. A personalized sports CD allows the child to hear his or her name announced before a cheering crowd. I have heard it said that playing a game is 90% mental and 10% skill, a personalized sports CD helps foster imagination. My kids all have visions of beating the opponent before even getting out of the car.

Making Music a Part of Life

My 4 year old son loves music. He often sings while playing, at bedtime or even in the car. Of course he wants me to sing along. Music can be an important part of a child’s life. It is proven to help with learning and development. So, making sure that music is a daily part of your child’s life can be a positive choice for any parent to make in their household.

Music can be valuable in the life of a child at almost any age. It can soothe a baby to sleep, light up a smile on the face of a toddler, and help a preschooler to learn his ABC’s. You can incorporate it into your baby, toddler or preschooler’s life through lullabies, singing catchy learning tunes or even through creating your own music. What child wouldn’t love beating a drum, clanging some cymbals or tapping out a tune on a toy piano or keyboard?drum

You can even teach your child to use their own hands and feet clapping or stomping out a beat. Learning rhythms can be an important part of a child’s development. Children are never too young to begin experiencing or enjoying music. They can begin to benefit from it even before they are born, so mommies bring out that CD player and listen to those lullabies, let your toddler bang the drums, and sing learning songs with your preschooler, it will only help them as the grow and learn while enjoying the joy of music all the while.

Sports Rivalry

sportFootball season brings out a long standing rivalry in our family. Half of the family are die heart Washington Redskins fans and half are Chicago Bears fans. Every football season it can get a little rowdy around here. And of course there is much ribbing among family members. I am the only neutral family member not routing for either team, but I like to stir things up sometimes.

The closer to game time the more bragging about what team is the best begins. For this football season Redskins and Bears personalized CDs will help bring the competition up a notch. During the football tailgating party, having all the opposing family members listening to your team, will increase the friendly rivalry. With a personalized sports CD they will hear your name announced while scoring the game winning touchdown for your favorite team. What a perfect addition to kick up your football party.

Music In School

Not to long ago when children were in school they were constantly hearing, “stay in your seat,” “quite wiggling,” or the famous “sit down.” Music in school has changed that. Now many teachers incorporate music while teaching. It channels the energy into something fun while each child becomes actively involved in learning.
Music and Dancing
Kids have a natural desire to learn, but if teachers fail to make it enjoyable, the kids will tune out. Music has also shown to help kids who struggle with emotional, social, or language problems. It helps draw them out of their shell and feel more comfortable in their surroundings and in return they are learning. Personalized musical CD’s help develop a child’s self-image and imagination. Dreaming of becoming a fireman, or an airplane pilot, or a farmer through music builds the imagination while teaching the kids about the different jobs. In the process they are moving around to the music and releasing all that energy while learning. Incorporating music in the classroom is win-win situation for teachers and students alike.

Fostering Twins Identity

pink%20balloonTwins can have you seeing double. It is double joy, double smiles, double laundry, and double trouble. Some parents like to dress their twins alike and many share a room until they are older. Despite all their similarities they still each have their own identity.

Fostering separate identities can be a challenge when everyone views them as one, especially when they are babies. One way to foster their different personalities is by personalizing their belongings. Personalization can make them feel special, it also helps grandparents, aunts and uncles when trying to call them by their right name. JY

One way of making them feel unique is having their own personalized “Jesus Loves You” CD. This music will begin to teach them that Jesus views each of us differently, in our own special way. The music CD will build their self esteem and will introduce bible stories that are sung with their own name. The “Jesus Loves You” CD also introduces scripture memorization.

A personalized music CD is just one of the many ways a parent can foster a twin’s identity and help them feel special and unique.
