Ideas For Grandparents Day

National Grandparents day is celebrated September 7th each year. Back in 1970, a West Virginia woman named Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade began a campaign to set aside a special day for grandparents. By 1978 congress passed legislation proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. September was chosen because it represents the “autumn years” of life. PCB

There are several ways to recognize grandparents on National Grandparents Day. A big family gathering is always a favorite in making grandparents feel special, but sometimes long distance does not always make that possible. If distance keeps you from celebrating together, another option is to have your child draw or write something special to the grandparents.

Displaying art work is a favorite pastime for all grandparents. Best yet, have your child’s art work woven into a personalized blanket. When distance keeps you apart, this is a special keepsake grandparents can wrap their arms around and save for a lifetime.
