Choosing the Perfect Teenage Birthday Gift

Birthdays are a yearly event most teens count down to. When it comes to selecting a birthday gift for your teenage son or daughter, it can become quite a challenge. With a little research and thinking outside the box, you can find that perfect, unique gift.

musicPersonalized music and gifts are something every teen can benefit from. The Teen population is most interested in personalization whether it is MP3 players, their clothing, or gifts they receive. Teens have the desire to be different, yet long to have a sense of belonging. When purchasing a birthday gift for a teenager it is a balancing act of providing them with more adult-like gifts, while still allowing them to be kids. A perfect teenage gift would consist of something all teens enjoy (e.g., music, clothing, pictures), but making sure it also contains a unique edge.

Music is one way to achieve that balance. A study of 1,155 teens by Shehan Campbell, Ph.D. of the University of Washington* found that music is essential to their complete education. This study found: music adds a sense of belonging, helps with the release and control of emotions, and provides the freedom to express themselves. Personalized music and gifts offer the same benefits. A teen seeing their name displayed on a CD cover or hearing their name announced by a famous sports announcer provides them with a sense of community and promotes positive self-image.

Also by displaying a teen’s accomplishments, like scoring the winning goal or capturing a special moment like graduation on a personalized photo gift reinforces their drive for independence and allows them to make their mark in the world. Most of the birthday gifts that are received by teens are used for a short time and then become lost or discarded. By purchasing a unique personalized birthday gift you are providing them a snapshot of that time in their life, and the gift will become a keepsake.
